South Yorkshire Futures is a social mobility partnership committed to improving education and raising aspiration for young people in South Yorkshire – particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The programme - led by Sheffield Hallam University and backed by the Department for Education - addresses the educational attainment and wellbeing of learners, and aims to develop a dedicated and talented workforce to support them.

Our aim
South Yorkshire Futures will provide an over-arching framework for consistent and sustained improvement in school attainment and the aspirations of young people in the region.

Building on existing work being undertaken by educational partners, South Yorkshire Futures will aim to:

  • Build a shared vision for the role of education in improving social mobility in the South Yorkshire;
  • Raise standards of attainment across South Yorkshire;
  • Support improved progression into higher education and work.

“We want all children, no matter what their background or where they live, to have access to a world-class education. The collaboration between South Yorkshire Futures and the Government's Opportunity Areas programme is helping to raise education standards and aspirations so that young people growing up in the area have the opportunity to fulfil their potential.

“I hope that through this work, young people living in each of the government’s 12 Opportunity Areas – including Doncaster – lead the way in showing how this positive change can be achieved.”
