South Yorkshire Futures is a social mobility partnership committed to improving education and raising aspiration for young people in South Yorkshire – particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The programme - led by Sheffield Hallam University and addresses the educational attainment and wellbeing of learners, and aims to develop a dedicated and talented workforce to support them.

Our aim
South Yorkshire Futures will provide an over-arching framework for consistent and sustained improvement in school attainment and the aspirations of young people in the region.

Building on existing work being undertaken by educational partners, South Yorkshire Futures will aim to:

  • Build a shared vision for the role of education in improving social mobility in the South Yorkshire region;
  • Raise standards of attainment across South Yorkshire;
  • Support improved progression into higher education and work.

"I serve as Mayor to ensure that every child gets the chance to fulfil their aspirations and achieve their potential. Nothing is more important to me.

That is why I am supporting the vital work being done by South Yorkshire Futures and I encourage others to lend their support."

Dan Jarvis MBE MP
Mayor of the Sheffield City Region

Sheffield Hallam University is leading the creation of a Civic University Network, a project which South Yorkshire Futures is heavily involved with.

The Network supports universities to develop and implement Civic University agreements, defining how each university works for and with its ‘place’.
